Description

A comforting casserole with layers of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and a bubbly cheese topping, perfect for weeknight dinners or potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat, add ground beef, and cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking for another 3 to 4 minutes until the onion is soft.
  4. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Layer the thinly sliced potatoes on top of the beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan over the potato layer.
  7. Pour beef broth or water around the edges of the casserole and drizzle with milk if desired.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

This casserole reheats well and can be made ahead of time. Use firm, starchy potatoes like Yukon Gold or Russets for best results.
