- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine sourdough starter, milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir until cohesive and glossy.
- Gradually mix in flour until a dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise overnight.
- Roll out the dough, spread with butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom.
- Roll tightly, slice into individual rolls, and place in a greased baking dish to rise until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- For frosting, beat cream cheese, maple syrup, and powdered sugar until smooth. Frost warm rolls and serve.
Notes
Use whole milk for a richer crumb. Ensure melted butter is warm but not hot to maintain yeast activity. Can prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate.
