Description

A warm, comforting dish featuring crispy tater tots on top of a creamy ground beef mixture, perfect for family dinners or potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces. Add diced onion and cook until translucent, seasoning with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  3. Drain excess fat, then stir in cream of mushroom soup and sour cream until well combined and warmed through.
  4. Grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish and spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom.
  5. Sprinkle 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  6. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until tater tots are golden and crispy.
  8. Remove from oven and add remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese on top, then bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a twist, swap half the cheddar for Monterey Jack. Use 90% lean ground beef for less fat.
