Boil the Water: Fill a large pot with 4 quarts of water and add the salt. Heat the water over high heat until it reaches a full boil. The salt will enhance the pasta’s flavor as it cooks.
Cook the Gemelli Pasta: Add the Gemelli pasta to the boiling water. Stir gently to prevent it from sticking. Cook according to the package instructions, usually 8-10 minutes, until the pasta is al dente (firm to the bite). Stir occasionally to ensure the pasta cooks evenly.
Reserve Some Pasta Water: Before draining the pasta, take a small cup of the cooking water (about 1/2 cup). This starchy water will help thicken and bind your sauce later.
Once the pasta is cooked, pour it into a colander to drain. Be sure not to overcook it as the pasta will continue to cook slightly once drained.
Toss with Sauce: Return the drained pasta to the pot (or a large mixing bowl). Add your favorite sauce (tomato-based, cream-based, or olive oil with garlic) and toss the pasta to coat evenly. You can also add a splash of the reserved pasta water to help the sauce adhere to the pasta.
Garnish and Serve: For extra flavor, drizzle with a little olive oil, and sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and herbs like basil or parsley. Serve immediately, and enjoy!
