Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage sliced
  • 4 medium potatoes diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup shredded cheese optional
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Wash and dice the potatoes into even-sized cubes (about ½-inch thick) to ensure they cook evenly.
  • Slice the smoked sausage into ¼-inch rounds for the perfect bite-sized pieces.

Heat the Pan

  • In a large skillet or cast-iron pan, heat 1 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp butter over medium heat until the butter is melted.
  • Swirl the pan to coat the bottom evenly, which helps prevent sticking and enhances the flavor.

Cook the Potatoes

  • Add the diced potatoes to the skillet in a single layer to allow even cooking.
  • Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika for seasoning.
  • Cover the pan with a lid and let the potatoes cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure they don’t burn.
  • Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, allowing the potatoes to get a golden-brown, crispy texture.

Add the Smoked Sausage

  • Stir in the sliced smoked sausage with the potatoes, making sure to distribute them evenly across the pan.
  • Cook uncovered for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is slightly crispy on the edges and has released its delicious smoky juices into the potatoes.

Optional: Add Cheese

  • If you love extra flavor, sprinkle ½ cup of shredded cheese (cheddar, gouda, or parmesan work well) over the dish.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover the pan for 2 minutes, and let the cheese melt into the potatoes and sausage for an extra creamy touch.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
  • Serve immediately while hot and enjoy with your favorite sides!

Notes

Bonus Tips:

  • For extra crispiness: Let the potatoes cook undisturbed for a few minutes before stirring.
  • Want more flavor? Add sautéed onions and bell peppers for a slightly sweet and smoky contrast.
  • Spicy version: Use andouille sausage or add red pepper flakes for extra heat.
