Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sourdough Discard
  • 1 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 4 tablespoons Butter or Olive Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • Optional: Herbs spices, or grated cheese to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

  • Make sure you have all your ingredients ready to go. This will make the process smooth and enjoyable.

Step 2: Mix the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup of sourdough discard.
  • Add 1½ cups of all-purpose flour and ½ teaspoon of salt to the bowl.
  • If you’re using any additional seasonings or herbs, add them now (like garlic powder, dried herbs, or cheese).
  • Pour in 4 tablespoons of melted butter or olive oil.

Step 3: Combine Ingredients

  • Use a spatula or your hands to mix the ingredients until a dough starts to form.
  • If the mixture is too sticky, sprinkle in a bit more flour until you can easily handle it.

Step 4: Roll Out the Dough

  • Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to about 1/8 inch thick. This thickness will help ensure crispy crackers.
  • Make sure to keep the surface and rolling pin floured to prevent sticking.

Step 5: Cut the Crackers

  • Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the rolled-out dough into squares or rectangles. You can make them any size you like, but remember they will expand slightly while baking.
  • For a decorative touch, you can use cookie cutters to create fun shapes!

Step 6: Prepare for Baking

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Carefully transfer the cut crackers to the lined baking sheet, leaving space between them for even baking.

Step 7: Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them towards the end to avoid burning.

Step 8: Cool Down

  • Once baked, remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes.
  • Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely, which will help them stay crispy.
